Curriculum Intent
A new 2024 Curriculum for St Paul's Catholic Primary School!
St Paul's Catholic Primary School, VA, has a history of high attainment and a strong curriculum offer, however as a staff team we felt we needed to improve our knowledge-based teaching and the development of key skills. We knew that it was a time to be "bold and brave" in line with the vision of Mary Myatt so we decided to change our longterm plans, our timetabling of lessons and how we use our 'beautiful resources' in school.
We agreed, as a staff, to take the best elements of published schemes, such as KAPOW, Purple Mash and Ten:Ten and enhance them with opportunities that were localised, personal to St Paul's families, and rooted in wonderful literature. (Mary Myatt)
We have spent the last two years planning, reshaping (and evaluating) the lessons we teach to our children. At the heart of our 2024 Curriculum is our teaching of Stewardship and Catholic Social Teaching. Rooted in the Virtues of St Paul, we strive to improve our academic standards whilst also developing our childrens' wider Character Education.
At St Paul's Catholic Primary School, VA, we value all feedback we receive from our pupils and parents. Our pupils asked for more enhancement trips, more practical lessons and exciting topics that allowed them to be challenged and tested. Parents wanted greater clairty over home learning and curriculum expectations.
The following diagram sets out how topics should be taught at St Paul's Catholic Primary School, VA.
We will continue to review, change and improve our learning experiences so that we can offer our children the Outstanding learning journey they deserve.
